The neighbourhood was originally part of a larger community that included what is now Iris/Queensway Terrace South, until Highway 417's construction in 1967 split the area.

Large apartment buildings were added in the 1970s, changing the neighbourhood's housing mix. Today, QTN is characterized by predominantly low-density residential streets with recreational open space at its core, two school properties, and the landscaped Pinecrest Creek Corridor along its eastern edge.

Frank Ryan Park and Elmhurst Woods provide extensive recreation including wooded paths, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball, a field house, summer wading pool, and winter skating rink. The neighbourhood has an active community association that has engaged in planning discussions about intensification policies affecting QTN's future development.

Queensway Terrace North is bounded by Carling Avenue to the north, Pinecrest Road to the west, Highway 417 (Queensway) to the south, and the OC Transpo Transitway to the east. The Pinecrest Creek Corridor provides a landscaped edge along the eastern boundary.
