Contractors in Britannia Heights
Britannia Heights is a Bay Ward neighbourhood on a steep hill away from the Ottawa River, developed primarily from the 1930s to 1960s. Part of the broader Britannia area with roots to 1818, modern development accelerated in the 1950s when Glabar Realty subdivided former J.R. Booth Company lands. The neighbourhood combines pre-war cottage charm with mid-century homes, and added townhouses and condos after 1970.
About Britannia Heights
Britannia Heights traces its history to 1818 when the land formed part of a large estate owned by Captain John LeBreton. The first land entrepreneur was William Mosgrove, whose 1908 plan created 47 lots on Pinecrest Road and St. Louis (now Pinewood Crescent).
The mid-20th century brought significant suburban expansion, driven by Ottawa's post-WWII population growth and the 1950 annexation of surrounding areas. Development accelerated when Glabar Realty subdivided former J.R. Booth Company lands starting in 1951. Most homes were built between the 1930s and 1960s.
The neighbourhood retains its historic single-family residential character, combining pre-war cottage charm with mid-century modern conveniences. After 1970, townhouses and condominiums were added through the 1980s. The hillside location away from the Ottawa River gives the neighbourhood its distinctive terrain.
