About Galetta
Galetta's history dates to 1823 when the area was first settled, originally named Hubbell's Falls after James Hubbell. By 1850, the community had its own post office, kept at Riddle's or Mohr's Corners with James Riddle serving as postmaster. By 1866, Hubbell's Falls was a village of about 200 in Fitzroy Township, situated on the Mississippi River.
The village's location on the Mississippi River near its confluence with the Ottawa River made it important for early milling operations. The community maintains its rural character as a dispersed settlement across the area.
Despite postal codes that may indicate Arnprior, Galetta is proudly part of West Carleton within the City of Ottawa. The community includes several small neighbourhoods including Vydon Acres, Marshall Bay, and part of Mohr Corners.
