Contractors in Overbrook

Overbrook is an established urban neighbourhood in Rideau-Rockcliffe Ward in east Ottawa, situated across the Rideau River from Sandy Hill and south of Vanier. Originally part of Gloucester Township with its name appearing on maps as early as 1879, Overbrook developed primarily between 1940 and 1960 as a working-class residential area. The neighbourhood covers 3.04 square kilometres with a mix of older homes and newer infill developments.

About Overbrook

Overbrook's name first appeared on Gloucester Township maps in 1879, though significant development came later. The first reference in the Might's City Directory appeared in 1912, describing Overbrook as 'a District lying east of the Rideau River between Cummings Bridge and Hurdmans Bridge.'

The neighbourhood was constituted as a police village in 1922 and annexed by the City of Ottawa on January 1, 1950, along with other sections of Gloucester and Nepean Townships. Most housing was built between 1940 and 1960, with the oldest home dating to 1906.

In the 1970s, the Community Council of Overbrook formed in response to plans to develop the old railway bed into what became the Vanier Parkway. The community's advocacy produced the Overbrook Neighbourhood Study. Today, Overbrook continues to evolve with new infill developments, low-rise condos, and townhomes joining the established housing stock.

Overbrook is bounded by McArthur Road and the former City of Vanier to the north, the Rideau River to the west, Highway 417 (Queensway) to the south, and St. Laurent Boulevard to the east. The eastern portion overlaps with the Castle Heights neighbourhood.
