About Old Ottawa East

Old Ottawa East began as the rural community of Archville in the early 1800s, with the boundary of Ottawa ending at Gladstone and Mann avenues. The area incorporated as the Village of Ottawa East in 1888, electing its own reeve and village council until amalgamation with Ottawa in 1907.

Main Street, running through the centre of the neighbourhood, was the central road of historic Archville. Today it remains the neighbourhood's commercial and community spine, lined with local businesses and connecting residents to transit.

The Flora Footbridge, opened to pedestrians in 2019, connects Old Ottawa East to The Glebe across the Rideau Canal, improving active transportation options. The neighbourhood is home to Saint Paul University, Immaculata High School, Lady Evelyn Alternative School, and other educational institutions.
